Gaziler Halva +
  • Gaziler Halva; It is a type of flour halva prepared using flour, sugar and butter. It is flavoured with honey in a way unique to Edirne. In Edirne, when the armies went on a campaign, they were sent off with halva, when they returned from the campaign, they were welcomed with halva and the halva made was eaten with prayers. For this reason, it became known as Veterans Halva over time.
  • It has become a traditional conversation product by being served in halva chats organised in Edirne.
  • Soak the almonds in warm water, peel the skins, reserve a few almonds for decoration, melt 1 cup margarine in a large pan, add 2,5 cups flour and almonds, roast until they turn pink. Boil 5 cups of milk in a pot, add 1,5 cups of granulated sugar and mix. Add the roasted flour into the sweetened milk little by little and mix. When the halva is cooked, remove it from the fire, cover the lid of the pot and rest it for half an hour. Then pick egg sized pieces and shape them as oval and decorate with almonds.
