Ekmekçizade Caravanserai Museums

The caravanserai was built by Ekmekçizade Ahmet Pasha in H:1018-M:1609 and gifted to Sultan Ahmed. The building consists of four large stables, many rooms, two fountains, stone-built shops on the street.

It is known that the architect was the architect Sedefkar Mehmed Aga and the architect Hacı Şaban from Edirne helped him. Built with cut stone, brick and wood materials, the building consists of two separate sections. The first part consists of two large rectangular spaces placed in the northwest-southeast direction and covered with a hipped roof, and the second part consists of a large courtyard in front of them and a series of shops surrounding it from the outside.

Within the scope of the exhibition and arrangement works of the museum, the history of the Turks, their rulers, symbols of sovereignty and other cultural heritage elements were explained with animations in the "Museum of the Turkish States Founded in History" section located in Space-1, which is a large rectangular building located in the northwest-southeast direction and covered with a double sloping roof. In the "Museum of Ottoman Sultans", there are reenactments of 36 Ottoman Sultans with hyperrealistic silicone sculptures and information boards of the period. In the "Sultan's Tent Museum", since the Otağ-ı Hümayun is one of the symbols of the power and splendour of the Ottoman sultans outside the palace, the visitors are introduced to the period with the animation performed in the museum concept.

The rectangular building located in the southwestern part of the caravanserai and entered from the inner courtyard was named as Space-2 and the "Museum of Ottoman Works in the Balkans" was located in this space. Here, the Ottomans' 500 years of peaceful rule and construction in the Balkans were explained with architectural models and films documenting their current status, and 32 miniature architectural works made in different scales such as 1/20-1/50-1/100 and other cultural heritage elements were exhibited.

Ekmekçizade Caravanserai Museums, which has the status of a private museum under the Special Provincial Administration of the Governorship of Edirne, was opened to visitors on January 7, 2023 with four concepts including the theme of "Turkish States Founded in History", "Ottoman Sultans", "Sultan's Tent" and "Ottoman Artifacts in the Balkans".
